Description: This young fella is Crystal Star's first cria, and she's done a smashing job! Legato is a beautiful young male, born sometime between 6 and 6:30 in the evening on September 12th. His mom managed to sneak him in (I guess I really mean out!) when I wasn't looking, since I hadn't expected him for another couple of weeks. I first saw him out in the pasture with the herd when I went out for evening feeding. Of course, it had been cold and rainy all day, and there he was -- still draped with the remnants of his birthday wrappings, standing in grass that was taller than he, calmly checking out his surroundings. It appears that he'd been born in the barn, but mom took him out when the herd went out to graze that evening. Had I not found the placenta in the barn when I went out for the evening feeding, I might not have seen him until morning! But when he raised his head and turned to look at me when I ran into the pasture, my heart 'bout stopped - his fantastic rose gray fleece was visible at a distance, even in the dim light of a rainy evening!

Legato is a very healthy and sturdy young fella. He seems very confident and alert. As he's grown during the past couple of weeks, he's developed a beautiful carriage and conformation. His fleece has developed small, boldly crimped bundles with brightness and character.

New photos will be up shortly to show how lovely he really is. Note: that's not white on his neck, chest and front leg -- that's how bright the gray is when the light hits it! The only white other than his face are a pair of "sports socks" on his front leg, and the high stockings on his hind legs.

'Gato has tested negative for BVD.

Star is a daughter of our Crystalynn, and carries Crystalynn's dense, bright, boldly crimped fiber. We bred her to our gray male, Shilo, hoping to capitalize on her gray color potential, and succeeded with the birth on 9/12/06 of a fabulous dark rose gray male! This gal should be a "must visit" for breeders looking for excellent gray genetics.

Star has super-dense fawn fiber that glows even in the shade. Her brightness is an example of our breeding program, which focuses on bringing out the glow in our huacayas. She has all the qualities that make up a Star -- density, fineness, uniformity, color and luster -- covering a conformationally perfect frame! Her first cria is absolutely smashing!

Congratulations to the Reinharts of Allegheny Alpacas for their astute acquisition of this fantastic female!

Shilo is a super-dense medium silver grey with lovely crimp. His blanket fiber is uniform from front to back, top to bottom, and his 2002 fleece scored a 7 out of 10 on brightness! His 2003 histogram reflects a micron of 24. In addition, Shilo sports superior conformation, excellent bone structure and a strong heritage of outstanding grey fiber from his sire, New Zealand's Wily Coyote, and his maternal grandfather, Request the Best. Shilo's sire, Wily Coyote, suffered an unfortunate early demise, making his line rare. If you're seeking to diversify your grey/black lines, check out Shilo. Shilo has sired four males (one LSG, two DB and one DRG) and three females (one W, one white with fawn and black spots, and one TB). As with all of our herd sires, we offer a 30-day live birth warranty.
